Nichols, John Edgar

John Edgar Nichols, of Magnolia, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the age of 75. He was born on August 23, 1945 to the late Harvey Lester and Annie Laura Nichols.
John was born and raised in Magnolia where he grew up alongside his 3 older brothers, Wayne, Harvey, and Gerald, working on the family’s farm. He attended Magnolia High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1963. After high school John worked at Froelich’s Feed Store until 1973 when he found his true passion in real estate. He was first licensed in 1973 and became a Broker in 1976 when he opened his own real estate company. He began his journey of volunteerism within the Realtor Associations serving on numerous committees and in leadership roles.
• 1991 President of Houston 2001 Realtor of The Year Texas
• 1997 President of Texas 2017 Nat’l Assoc. Meritorious Service Award
• 1998 Realtor of The Year Houston 2017 Nat’l Assoc. Political Action Hall of Fame
John loved and adored his family and always doted on his grandkids. He was a hard worker and was passionate about everything that he did, whether it was fixing a fence on his property or closing a real estate deal. One of John’s biggest passions was raising and working with horses. For many years he and his brothers bred, raised, and raced a number of quarter horses. John enjoyed living in the country and took great pride in working on the land that he grew up on. Being a country boy, he was an avid hunter and didn’t miss a chance to take a trip to his hunting cabin. John was also quite a story teller and could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his colorful, larger than life stories. He was known for being as tough as nails, but his family and those who were fortunate enough to call him a friend, know that he had a softer side as well. John will always be remembered for his quick wit (and sometimes his quick temper to match), but also for his compassion and willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Debra Nichols; his son John “Mike” Nichols and wife Wendy, daughters Susan Patton and husband Brian, and Lisa Harris and husband Jeff; Grandchildren Mallory Amador and husband Andrew, Noelle Vela and husband Sam, Aaron Nichols and wife Kaitlyn, Blake Patton, Kaitlyn Patton, Kyle Harris, and Colby Harris; great grandchildren Brighton Amador and Bailee Amador; Step children Tricia Stott and husband Ben, and Chris Rhoton and wife Monica; Step grand-children Tyler Stott and Mason Stott, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews; best friends forever Bob Hale and Ron Wakefield.
