Smith, Michael Todd

MICHAEL TODD SMITH, age 49 of Arp, TX, passed away in a Tyler hospital and went to be with his Lord on July 15, 2009.

He was born January 12, 1960 in Hempstead to the late Oscar Edgar `Tubby’ and Margarett Ruth Whatley Smith. Todd graduated Arp High School in 1978 and attended Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston State University. He married Glenda Santistevan October 8, 1988 in Houston. He served as a Little League Coach for many years and was a volunteer for Cy-Fair Sports Association. He also served as secretary for the Macedonia Cemetery Association and was on the Cattlemans Committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Association. His home church is Terra Verde Community Church in Rosehill.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Smith; son, Korde Michael Smith; daughter, Santana Kimber Smith, all of Arp; brother, Thump Phillips, of Houston; sister, Debbie Gillispie, of Arp; four nephews and a niece, Clint Michael Gillispie, Cayle Gillispie, Gavin Todd Phillips, Ryan Burtrum and Madison Burtrum.

Visitation was held on Friday, July 17, 2009, from 5 to 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services were conducted on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home with Pastor David Sumlin officiating.

Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions to The Todd Smith Children’s Memorial Fund, Independence Bank, 13100 Northwest Freeway #100, Houston, TX 77040, Attn: Kay McGlamo.

Michael lived to be 49 years, 6 months and 3 days old.

Simmons, Lucy Thompson

Lucy Thompson Simmons, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died on Friday, June 22,2007 in Destrehan, LA, at the age of 88.

Member of St. Mathew’s Methodist Church in Houston prior to moving to LaPlace, LA in 1998.

She was the beloved wife of the late Gail Warren Simmons Sr. for 53 years and the daughter of the late Harvey M. Thompson and Lillie L. Dinkins of Waller, TX. She was
preceded in death by her brother, Oscar H. Thompson, sisters, Lillie Thompson Randall, Mary Thompson Carr, and great grandson, Dillon Warren Simmons.

She is survived by her son, Gail Warren Simmons Jr. and daughter-in-law Betty Osborne Simmons of LaPlace, LA. Three grandsons, Gail Warren Simmons III (Jeanne) of Montz, LA, Wayne Alfred Simmons (Annette) of LaPlace, LA and Wade Alan Simmons (Stacey) of Dallas, TX. Six great grandchildren, Heather, Travis, Amanda, Alan, Ashley, Gail Warren IV and Justin. Brothers, John L. Thompson (Robbie), of Houston. Bill Thompson (Frieda), of Waller, TX, and sister Helen Thompson Beals, of Georgetown, TX. And numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 11:00am at Canon Funeral Home Chapel in Waller, TX.

Visitation was just prior to the service from 9:00am -11:00. Reverend Evelyn Cox officiating.

Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery.

Lucy lived to be 88 years,6 months and 27 days old.

Sheffield, Lula Mae Clepper

Luda Mae Sheffield of Beckville, TX passed away on July 26, 2005.

Lula was the daughter of William Wesly Morris Clepper and Maggie Mae Forehand Clepper.

Mrs. Sheffield is preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Joyce McClard; and sons, William Eugene Sheffield and Othel Sheffield.

She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Mae Chandler and husband Ray, Lorene Metcalf, and Irene Williams; sister, Gertrude McWilliams; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Services were conducted on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Dobbs officiating.

Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery.

Lula lived to be 94 years,1 month and 26 days old.

Seltz, Elizabeth Clark

Elizabeth Clark Seltz
Born November 2. 1922. in Louisiana
Died January 30, 2005, in Tomball Texas
Preceded in death by parents:
Grayson James Clark and Elizabeth Clack Clark
also, a brother and husband, R.L. Seltz

Elizabeth worked for Amoco for 35 years and retired in 1981. She was an active participant in her church, Macedonia United Methodist Church in Hockley, a member of the Waller County Historical Society, the Mended Heart Association and Macedonia Cemetery Association. She was loved and cherished by many friends and family, and she will be truly missed.

Seel, George Augustus Jr. -3

Newsman, Dies
Houston, Feb 13, (AP)
George A. Seel, former associate editor of the Houston Post and former editor of the Galveston Tribune, died today in Herman Hospital. He was 65.

A native of Warm Springs, Ark., Seel received his early newspaper training in Corpus Christi, moving to Galveston in 1912. He joined the Post in 1946 and retired in 1950.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Sarah V. Seel.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
